Belvedere-Tiburon Library gets permits to begin work on expansion

Encroachment and building permits for the Belvedere-Tiburon Library’s long-awaited expansion project have been issued by the town of Tiburon, clearing the way for construction to begin. While the permit was issued Oct. 23, site preparation had already begin for the $17.6 million one-story, 8,617-square-foot project, which will enhance the children’s, teen and adult libraries and create new administrative areas and a larger community room that will bring the library to 19,117 square feet. A used bookstore and cafe will also be added; the shared library-Town Hall parking lot will be moved to the rear of the building, with part of the existing space converted into a civic plaza; and Zelinsky Park will be moved behind Town Hall.
