Reed school district looks to offer buyouts to avoid teacher layoffs

The Reed Union School District is exploring a retirement-incentive program for some of its employees, a move that could save the district money and prevent future layoffs amid declining enrollment at its three schools. Under an agreement approved by the district board Feb. 25, the district will work with Public Agency Retirement Services to design a supplementary retirement plan aimed at encouraging qualified employees to retire early.
