Local food-assistance effort focuses on Hilarita and senior housing


A group of locals is building on their effort to help feed families in need during the coronavirus pandemic by providing weekly groceries to residents of The Hilarita and several other Tiburon Peninsula affordable-housing complexes.The effort, dubbed Bags of Love, started in March as a way to provide food assistance to families in the Sausalito-Marin City School District. After the district’s two schools, Bayside Martin Luther King Jr. Academy and Willow Creek Academy, closed in mid-March amid the pandemic, Tiburon resident Dana Linker Steele learned the principal of Bayside MLK was purchasing nonperishable goods and pairing those with dairy, fruit and meat supplied by the SF-Marin Food Bank to make sure families at his school had enough to eat.
