Visitors flood Tiburon for holiday weekend


Traffic on the Tiburon Peninsula over Memorial Day weekend climbed to the busiest it’s been since the coronavirus shelter-in-place order was issued on March 16. Between 6,000 and 7,000 cars were counted traveling inbound on Tiburon Boulevard each day over the three-day weekend, maintaining the upward trend in peninsula traffic as shelter-order restrictions loosen. Citations didn’t seem to deter scores of visitors from parking on residential streets and walking to parks and trailheads. Police handed out dozens of tickets near hotspots at the tops of Gilmartin Drive, Lyford Drive and Taylor Road. Tiburon police have now posted additional signs at trailheads, warning visitors they will be ticketed if their car is registered outside the 94920 ZIP code. (Elliot Karlan photo / For The Ark)
