Dr. Fereydoon Soofer

Dr. Fereydoon Soofer died peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 29th, 2020, surrounded by his entire beloved family after a valiant battle with cancer. He was 81.

Fereydoon was born on June 23rd, 1939, in Tehran, Iran, to his proud parents, Mohtaram and Davood Soofer. In 1957, Fereydoon left for America with only a suitcase and his well-known accessory, his accordion, in hand. Fereydoon met a Scottish girl, Rhonda Pauline McNally, of Glasgow, Scotland, while studying at University of California at San Francisco as a student of pharmacology. Soon after, they fell in love and were married on November 2, 1965, in Tehran. Mr. Soofer joined the family pharmaceutical business and he and Rhonda had three children, Kaveh, Guiv and Sharona.

After losing their family business due to the Iranian Revolution, in 1978 Fereydoon and Rhonda returned to the city they fell in love in. Fereydoon started the second chapter of his life overlooking the San Francisco Bay in Tiburon and remained in the same house for 40 plus years. Fereydoon started Strawberry Pharmacy in Mill Valley and was the head pharmacist for five years.

In 1984, he joined his friend Faramarz Petri, also of Tiburon, in founding Plastikon Industries, an injection molding company in the East Bay. Fereydoon remained the president of Plastikon, one of their group of companies, until his retirement in 2016. He remained an active member of the board, continuing to travel to China and throughout the United States until he was unable to do so because of Covid.

In addition to business trips, Fereydoon loved to travel with friends and family. His favorite traveling partner was his beloved wife of 54 years, and there wasn’t a country or adventure they weren’t eager to experience. One place he loved to the visit the most was his beloved Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This was his happy place and a great source of joy he loved to share with everyone. He had a zest for life like no other. Whether he participated in the Tiburon Triathlon at the age of 75 or braved banana-boat rides for the sake of his grandchildren, Fereydoon was always game and present.

Fereydoon, aka Papa, was the doting grandfather to 11 grandchildren, who were his biggest source of pride. There wasn’t a school milestone, birthday or sporting event — even in torrential downpour rain — that he wasn’t present for.

Fereydoon was a larger than life figure who added color to any room with his famous smile and zest for life. His absence will leave a gaping hole in all who were lucky to know him.

Fereydoon is survived by his wife, Rhonda, his children Kaveh (Lida) Soofer of Tiburon, Guiv (Debbie) Soofer of Tiburon, Sharona (Afshin) Veiseh of Los Angeles and 11 grandchildren: Brandon, Sydney, Michael, Elliott, Andrew, Devon, Dylan, Tyler, Hudson, Blake and Bryce, as well as his brothers Dariush (Mona) Soofer and Jamshid (Farideh) Soofer of Beverly Hills. He is predeceased by his brother Iraj Soofer of Paris, France.
