Tiburon approves garbage-rate hike despite residents’ complaints

Garbage rates are going up in Tiburon Oct. 1 despite objections from a chorus of residents who said the waste-management company’s service doesn’t warrant higher bills. The Tiburon Town Council at its Sept. 16 teleconference meeting voted 3-2, with Holli Thier and Jon Welner dissenting, to approve a 9.36-percent hike to garbage and recycling rates. At the same meeting, the council indefinitely postponed consideration of a proposal from Mill Valley Refuse to restructure rates so that hillside and flat neighborhoods would pay the same for service.
