Webb, Jaffee lead in Reed schools board race

Updated: Nov 25

Voters in the Reed Union School District appear to have elected incumbent Liz Webb and newcomer Jacqueline Jaffee to four-year terms on the board.

As of Nov. 4, Webb, who runs a digital marketing research and consulting firm, was the leading vote-getter in the four-way, pick-two contest, earning a vote on some 49.3 percent of the 5,671 ballots cast in the Nov. 3 election. Jaffee, an attorney and the executive director of nonprofit Adopt A Family Marin, had earned votes on about 42.5 percent of ballots.

Fellow candidates Chuck Hornbrook, who currently serves on the Tiburon Parks, Open Space and Trails Commission, had earned 27.2 percent of the vote, while Dan Emerson, the senior associate athletic director for compliance at the Academy of Art University, had earned about 11 percent.

The Marin Elections Department is still counting more than 50,000 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots countywide — about a third of all ballots cast — with turnout expected to be about 90 percent. Totals will be updated by 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays beginning Nov. 6.

Webb, 45, was appointed to the five-member school board in February to fill the seat of longtime board member Dana Linker Steele, who resigned in December with a year left on an extended five-year term. She lives in Tiburon with her husband, Jeff. The couple has three children enrolled in the district, one each at Reed and Bel Aire elementary schools and Del Mar Middle School.

Jaffee, 43, is in line to take over the seat currently held by Amy Jacobs, who chose not to run for re-election. Jacobs was appointed to the board in 2018 to replace another longtime board member, Susan Lambe Peitz, who stepped down two years before her extended term was set to expire. Like Webb, Jaffee and her husband, Ian, live in Tiburon and are parents to three children enrolled in the district, one at each of the district’s three schools. Jaffee currently serves as the co-president of the Foundation for Reed Schools board of directors.
