Andrew K. McCord

Andrew King McCord, age 85, died peacefully in his home in San Rafael surrounded by loved ones on September 7, 2021, after a short illness.

Andy was born and lived most of his early life in the Chicago area. During college, at Northwestern University, his family moved to Pittsburgh, PA, where he subsequently settled after spending four years as a naval officer. His service was on two ships, one in the Atlantic and the other in the Mediterranean. After discharge, he remained in Europe touring for a year. Returning to Pittsburgh, he secured a job with an investment firm and remained at that firm for four years.

He and his new wife, Judi, then decided to leave Pittsburgh and ultimately settled in San Francisco. When their second child was on the way, they moved to Belvedere. Upon his arrival in California, Andy went to work for the Bank of America in their investment department. He remained with the B of A, in various investment-related capacities, until his retirement twenty-eight years later.

In Marin, Andy served as a board member and treasurer for the Tiburon Peninsula Club, the Marin affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), and on the board of Elpida House. For fun, he played golf, fly-fished, played guitar, and painted.

Andy is survived by his loving daughters, Cassie Hettleman (Steve) and Miller McCord (Fabio Vaglio), grandchildren Ray and Audrey, sister Leslie Danforth and brother Dr. Colin McCord, his former wife and friend, Judi, as well as many East Coast nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to By the Bay Health (formerly Hospice by the Bay) or the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
