Belvedere city manager will retire on June 15


Belvedere City Manager Craig Middleton has announced he plans to retire in June, capping a five-year stint in the top job.


Middleton’s last day will be June 15. The Belvedere City Council was set to meet April 4, after The Ark’s press deadline, to discuss the process for recruiting his replacement.


The news comes as Belvedere is facing two of its most significant and controversial projects in decades — a $27.4 million infrastructure and seawall-bolstering plan to be posed to voters, as well as a 42-unit housing redevelopment project on the Belvedere Lagoon — and just two weeks after Vice Mayor and City Councilmember Steve Block announced his immediate resignation, reportedly for personal reasons. The city is currently soliciting applicants for an interim councilmember to serve through the November general election, with the winner finishing Block’s term through November 2024.
