Belvedere couple steps in to bring Christmas tree to Fountain Plaza

Residents have once again rallied to bring holiday decorations to Tiburon’s Fountain Plaza — this time in the form of a live 12-foot-tall Christmas tree.

After a group took to online neighborhood forum Nextdoor.com to note the conspicuous absence of a tree in the plaza, which had previously hosted one for decades under the direction of the Tiburon Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, Belvedere resident Chelsea Schlunt and her husband, Jason, decided to take matters into their own hands. They purchased a tree at the Marin Civic Center that was set up by the town’s Public Works crew in the plaza Dec. 17.

A small group of volunteers recruited by Schlunt planned to decorate the tree the next day, after The Ark’s press deadline, with a tree-lighting ceremony to be held that evening.
