Landmarks honors railroad museum docent

To most visitors to the Tiburon Railroad and Ferry Depot Museum, Becky Pringle is the volunteer docent who explains the town’s railroad history. But to the local third-graders who visit the museum on field trips, she’s known as “the ice-cream lady.”

On those visits, Pringle brings out her hand-crank ice-cream maker and each youngster takes a turn — it takes about 800 turns of the crank to produce soft vanilla ice cream, Pringle notes. The kids get a chance to understand what life was like in the early 1900s — and at the end of the session, everyone gets to eat some of the results of their handiwork.

For her dedication to the museum for the past decade, Pringle, 74, was named the Belvedere-Tiburon Landmarks Society’s 2022 Volunteer of the Year.
