Library volunteer who helped form Landmarks Society is named Belvedere’s citizen emerita
Ann Allen says that when she was growing up, her mother instilled in her a fondness of volunteering she has yet to lose
The 95-year-old has spent most of her golden years supporting the Belvedere-Tiburon Library, from diligently stacking books on its shelves to donating to its ongoing expansion project. But her volunteer work in the community dates back as far as 1959, when she was part of a group that saved Old St. Hilary’s Church from destruction by helping to establish the Belvedere-Tiburon Landmarks Society.
For her dedication to the community — and her legacy as the matriarch of one of the founding families of the city — Allen has been named Belvedere’s Citizen of the Year Emerita for 2021.
