Linda Winter Meinberg

1940 – 2022

The Candy Lady of Tiburon, Linda Winter Meinberg, passed away September 23, 2022. Linda was absolutely the best mom, friend, Gooma, wife, sister and daughter — ever. She smiled with all her heart and loved with all her soul. Linda’s fighting spirit helped her beat cancer four times over 40 years. The fifth one snuck by her, though, and she died peacefully, surrounded by family, at 82.

Linda was born in Grass Valley to Margaret and Carl Bregman. They moved to Sacramento in 1951, where Linda graduated from McClatchy High School. An accomplished pianist, she received a scholarship to UC Berkeley. Linda married Walter Winter and moved to Tiburon in 1961.

Linda managed Walter’s law office until his death in 1985. She then managed the office of Judge William Newsom through his retirement in 1995, and beyond.

Linda met the love of her life, Klaus Meinberg, in 1990. They opened the Candy Store on Main Street in 1998 and rode a wave of sugar and Beanie Babies until 2016. Linda and Klaus traveled extensively, were avid skiers, and played a mean game of Skip-Bo daily.

Linda’s love of animals – especially deer – was surpassed only by her love of family. Her daughter Wendy; son David; daughter and son-in-law Judea and John; step-kids Peter, Michael and Margaret; grandchildren Max, Alex and Kristen; sisters Judy and Janie; brother-in-law Frank; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and loyal friends, miss her dearly.

A celebration of life was held October 1st at the Corinthian Yacht Club. Please honor Linda by donating to your favorite animal or cancer organization.

The world is a better place because Linda was here. It dimmed slightly when she left, but her sparkle lives on, continuing to inspire all whom she touched, to be good, kind, generous and strong.
