Marin: Everyone should mask indoors

Marin has joined eight other Northern California counties in again recommending indoor face coverings for everyone, regardless of vaccination status, amid a rise in COVID-19 cases driven by the Delta variant. The July 16 announcement is a step short of mandatory indoor masking announced by Los Angeles County the day prior.

In Marin, at least 25 percent of all new cases are among fully vaccinated residents, according to Public Health Officer Dr. Matt Willis, helping to fuel a sustained increase that has quadrupled average daily new cases over the past month.

“There is a concern that if vaccinated individuals are infectious to others and not covering their faces, they could be transmitting to unvaccinated people who are vulnerable to serious illness,” Willis said in a video statement.
