Measure B: Parcel tax for Marin County library system renewed by voters
The renewal and increase of a parcel tax that helps support the Marin County Free Library earned the backing of voters in the Nov. 8 election.
As of the most-recent tally Nov. 16, Measure B had earned 76 percent approval, well above the two-thirds threshold it needed to pass.
Measure B would renew the current tax for another nine years and increase it to $98 per parcel. The measure provides for a 3-percent annual escalator.
That’s an increase of about 70 percent over the fiscal 2021-2022 tax rate of $57.56. Voters in the district approved a $49 per parcel tax to support the library in 2010 and then renewed the tax for another nine years in 2014 while also adding the annual escalator to account for inflation.
The measure is expected to bring in an estimated $4.7 million annually; the current tax brings in about $2.8 million annually, which accounts for about 13 percent of the library system’s revenue.
