Measure M: Residents back tax to save Tiburon ridge land

Voters in Belvedere and Tiburon south of Trestle Glen Boulevard are emphatically backing a $335 annual parcel tax that would be used to help buy a privately owned 110-acre Tiburon Ridge property local open-space activists have sought to preserve for nearly 50 years.

As of Nov. 16, Measure M had received about 79 percent approval on the Nov. 8 ballot — well over the two-thirds majority it needs to pass.

The parcel tax, which comes with a 2-percent annual escalator, will be used to pay off $23 million in bonds — the county’s share of the $42.1 million purchase price of the property. Landowner the Martha Co. last June agreed to sell the parcel to the Trust for Public Land, with the San Francisco nonprofit in turn selling it to Marin County for $26.1 million.
