Michael William Knepper

Michael William Knepper of Belvedere passed away from complications of advanced diabetes on November 3, 2020. Michael was born in Washington, D.C., on October 24, 1963, the youngest son of Virginia Doyle of Belvedere and William Knepper, a diplomat with the U. S. Department of State. Mike grew up in the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Switzerland, and the U.S. He attended St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., where he was the center forward of the varsity soccer team. He received a BS from Brown University in 1986, where he was on the varsity track team, and an MBA from Columbia University in 1994. He worked in New York and San Francisco as a financial analyst and executive recruiter.

Mike and his former wife, Lisa Psyhojos, had two sons, Nicholas and Alexander. The boys grew up in Mill Valley, CA, and Westfield, N.J. Nick graduated from Sonoma State University and Alex graduated from University of San Francisco. Mike and his sons enjoyed golf, ping-pong, chess, dominoes, exploring the Bay Area and rooting for the Redskins.

Mike was proud of his sons’ accomplishments. His oldest son, Nick, a financial adviser with Personal Capital in San Francisco, received his MBA from the University of Colorado. His younger son, Alex, a finance major at USF, passed away unexpectedly on June 20, 2020, in San Francisco, just prior to graduation. Alex was an honor student lauded by his professors for leading a group students who delivered food to the homeless in the Bayview area of San Francisco.

In Alex’s memory, Mike volunteered with Belvedere’s St. Stephen’s Church’s meal program for the homeless. After Mike’s death, his mother, Virginia, continues to participate in their memory.

Mike is survived by his mother, Virginia Doyle of Belvedere; his former wife, Lisa Psyhojos of New Jersey; his brother Chris (Susan) Knepper; his son, Nick; and his nieces and nephews Luke (Bethany), Rob, and Julia, and two great-nephews Clive and Tove Knepper.

Mike is also survived by his step-family: Tammis Doyle and Detta and Cassie Vines; KT, Teya and Alix Patt; Colin, Lisa, Emily and Alice Doyle; Patrick, Gavin and Charlotte Doyle; Bryan Doyle; and Jennifer Doyle.
