Nix Paradise Drive sites and add fourth stories downtown, Tiburon panel says

Tiburon planning commissioners say the town should ax a controversial Paradise Drive parcel from potential development by putting four-story downtown buildings back into its housing plans.

Though the 3-0 recommendation on May 10 won applause from the packed meeting chamber, the move now sets up a likely standoff next week between Paradise Drive neighbors and the Town Council. Tiburon is seeking to act swiftly to get its overdue housing element in place, while the council already ruled nine months ago that it wants to limit downtown buildings to three stories.

Nearly two dozen neighbors of the site at 4576 Paradise Drive, a waterfront lot on the hillside above Paradise Cay, spent more than an hour registering their objections to denser development there. Rezoning the 9.6-acre property would allow for up to 93 units where two homes and a guest house stand now and seven total units are allowed. Fanning the flames was the recent leak of an 82-unit conceptual map the owner says was created only to determine how many units could really be built.
