Peter Mansfield Phillips

Peter Mansfield Phillips passed away at home on January 27, 2022, after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Maryann (Coulie) Coulson Phillips; his two daughters, Deborah Phillips of Palm Desert, CA, and Pamela Henderson of Park City, UT, and his two granddaughters, Alexandra and Meghan Henderson of Park City, UT.

Peter was born on July 1, 1932, in Cleveland, OH, and graduated in 1950 from St. Paul’s School in Concord, NH. He continued his family’s tradition of attending Harvard University, the eighth generation to do so, and graduated in 1954. While at Harvard, Peter completed his ROTC Navy training and went on to serve in the Mediterranean, on the U.S.S. Smalley, for two years.

Peter’s career started at the Hanna Mining Co., where he worked for 20 years. In 1973, he and the family moved to Tiburon, CA (Bay Area) where he was vice president of Marcona Corp. Mining Co.

After 30 years in the mining industry, Peter transitioned his work to focus on the healthcare industry. In 2004, Peter and Coulie retired to Palm Desert, CA, where he continued to work in the healthcare space.

Peter had many passions in life, including sailing, railroads, all things military, and history, but above all else, he loved his family. He took great pleasure in watching his grandchildren grow up and having his daughters close by. Peter was very active in his community and will be greatly missed for the impact he made on countless lives.

There will be a memorial service for Peter at 2 pm on February 27, 2022, at St. Margaret’s Church, Palm Desert, CA.
