Report into Tiburon Peninsula cops’ conduct in stop might not be made public

The findings of a months-long independent investigation into the conduct of three Tiburon and Belvedere police officers during a racially charged incident at a Black-owned Fountain Plaza clothing store in August will not be made public unless the involved officers consent to its release, Tiburon officials say. Citing state employee-privacy laws, Town Manager Greg Chanis said the investigation report, expected to be finalized this month, will be privately reviewed by town staff to determine what, if any, disciplinary action and public disclosure is necessary. Town Attorney Ben Stock said that while there are some exceptions that would warrant public disclosure, such as an investigation relating to an officer discharging a gun at a person, none are applicable in this investigation.
