Residents can learn to prep for disasters with Oct. 16 walk, fair

Tiburon Peninsula residents are being encouraged to walk their neighborhoods this Saturday to identify possible emergency evacuation routes before heading to McKegney Green for a free safety fair and community barbecue.

The Oct. 16 Get Ready to Go 94920 event is being hosted by the town of Tiburon and city of Belvedere, along with both of their police departments and the Tiburon Fire Protection District.

Residents will be prompted to start their walk about 11 a.m. with an AlertMarin notification, which can be received via email, phone or text. During the walk, participants should note which streets are dead ends and which are through streets to familiarize themselves with possible ways in and out of their neighborhood that they can use in the event of an emergency or natural disaster.

Participants can also download a checklist of actions to complete during the event that can be turned in for a special prize during the McKegney Green community fair and barbecue, which will be held from noon to 2 p.m.

The safety fair at the green will include booths on emergency preparedness and earthquake preparedness. Residents can also learn more about local block captains programs and participate in hands-on training for CPR and other life-saving techniques.
