Strawberry Recreation to require vaccine and booster for employees

The Strawberry Recreation District will require its employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19, making it just the second public agency on the Tiburon Peninsula to mandate the shot.

Under the new policy, passed unanimously by the district’s board of directors on Jan. 20, all employees must submit proof they are fully vaccinated or have begun the process toward full vaccination to district Manager Nancy Shapiro by March 1.

The policy defines full vaccination as being two weeks past the final dose of the two-shot Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine and having received a booster shot within 15 days of becoming eligible for one. The mandate extends to the district’s elected board of directors as well as interns, volunteers and contract employees, including those who teach fitness, art or after-school enrichment classes on site. Proof of full vaccination is also a condition of employment for new hires. There is no option for regular testing instead.
