Troubled Cove Road water main to finally be replaced

A troubled stretch of half-century-old cast-iron water main under Cove Road in Belvedere is finally getting an upgrade. The Marin Municipal Water District is replacing the entire length of 8-inch pipeline between Lagoon and Beach roads with new welded-steel pipe as part of a larger project in Belvedere and southern Tiburon. In September 2018, a 17-foot section of damaged Cove Road pipe was replaced after it burst near Lagoon Road and Tiburon Boulevard, across from the Belvedere-Tiburon Library. The break sent 250,000 gallons of water down the street and into garages and homes, demolishing landscaping along the Old Rail Trail and knocking out water pressure across much of the southern peninsula. Just seven months later, in April 2019, another break on the opposite end near Beach Road released some 26,800 gallons of water into the street in about 30 minutes, flooding a low area on Cove Road.
