Two docs with local ties among 57 films in 20th Tiburon International Film Festival

Tiburon native Ian Adelson and his grandfather, Tiburon resident Dean Echenberg, are producers for the documentary ‘The Misty Experiment,’ which will screen at the 20th Tiburon International Film Festival. ‘Misty’ was the radio call sign used by the F-100F Fast Forward Air Controllers during the Vietnam War, whose pilots flew reconnaissance missions over North Vietnam and Laos under Operation Commando Sabre (below left) to identify military-supply runs heading to the front in South Vietnam. Echenberg was a flight surgeon for the squadron. Adelson also directed documentary-short ‘Another Life to Live’ about Lorraine DiPaolo (below right), a dance teacher whose husband became a quadriplegic in an accident shortly after their engagement.

The milestone 20th annual Tiburon International Film Festival hits the virtual silver screen Nov. 19-25 with 57 films from 25 countries — including two with local ties.

Among the films in the spotlight at this year’s festival will be “The Misty Experiment: The Secret Battle for the Ho Chi Minh Trail,” a documentary produced by a Tiburon resident Dean Echenberg and his grandson, Ian Adelson, about of a top-secret U.S. flight squadron Echenberg worked with that tracked elusive enemy targets during the Vietnam War.

Adelson, who grew up in Tiburon but now lives in New York City, will also screen “Another Life to Live,” a documentary short he directed and produced that chronicles the love story of two Brooklyn dance teachers whose lives were rocked when one was paralyzed shortly after they became engaged.
