The Ark is named nation’s best small weekly newspaper

The National Newspaper Association has named The Ark the nation’s best small community weekly, awarding the paper first place for general excellence in its 2018 Better Newspapers Contest for coverage in 2017. This is the first time The Ark, now in its 46th year, has won the association’s top national prize. The paper — which competes against other nondailies with a circulation of less than 3,000, typically the largest category — was named a national general-excellence finalist for the first time in 2014, and it has been named a finalist in each year since, winning third place in 2014, 2015 and 2017 and an honorable mention in 2016.
