Eat, Shop and Stay

Destination Tiburon keeps directories of the town’s restaurants, shops and places to stay, and the Chamber has a member directory and a printable downtown merchant map (PDF).

Walks and Views

  • Main Street and Ark Row. Tiburon’s waterfront Main Street, and Ark Row, a row of shops in former houseboats (“arks”) that were pulled ashore, a short walk from the ferry.
  • Shoreline Park and the waterfront. Benches and lawn along the bay off Paradise Drive, with views of Angel Island, Belvedere and San Francisco.
  • Blackie’s Pasture and the Richardson Bay path. A bayside path, and the statue of Blackie, the swayback horse who grazed the pasture for decades and is still the town’s favorite.
  • Old St. Hilary’s Landmark. The white 1888 mission church on the hill above downtown, surrounded by a wildflower preserve, with one of the best views on the peninsula.
  • Belvedere. Cross to Belvedere for San Rafael Avenue along the lagoon and Beach Road’s boatyards and yacht clubs.
  • Belvedere’s public lanes. Public walking lanes and stairways cut between Belvedere’s hillside streets, a quiet way to see the island on foot. The Ark’s map of Belvedere’s public lanes shows every route.
  • Ring Mountain. Marin County open space on the ridge, with trails, rare wildflowers in spring and views of the whole bay.

History

The Belvedere-Tiburon Landmarks Society runs four sites, generally open on weekend afternoons in season:

  • Old St. Hilary’s Landmark, the 1888 mission church built for railroad workers, now a historic site and concert venue.
  • The China Cabin in Belvedere, the social saloon of the 1866 paddle steamer China, restored on the Belvedere Cove shore.
  • The Railroad & Ferry Depot Museum in downtown Tiburon, in the old terminal where trains met the San Francisco ferries.
  • The Art & Garden Center overlooking Richardson Bay, an 1870s farmhouse from Tiburon’s railroad days with terraced gardens, restored as a wedding and event venue; its walls are a gallery for local artists.

Hours change by season; call the Landmarks Society at 415-435-1853 before you go.
