Garden Plot: Sod taking root on revamped McKegney Field


After several months of preparation, crews recently laid the sod on Tiburon’s McKegney Field as part of the field’s $2.04 million restoration. The sod is like the icing on a cake — and a lot of work went into the cake. First, crews scraped off the old dried-up grass and excavated down several feet. That was followed by several weeks of heavy equipment grading over and over again to get the field just right. A field needs to have a little pitch so it drains but not so much that players are running noticeably up and down.
