Belvedere sends third draft of housing element to state
Belvedere officials hope the third time’s the charm as the city has sent the latest draft of its eight-year housing roadmap to Sacramento for review — now with plans for single-family lot-split incentives and by-right temporary shelters.
The proposed 2023-2031 housing element, which identifies sites for 188 new units to meet Belvedere’s 160-unit mandate, was submitted to the California Department of Housing and Community Development on Nov. 15, three days after the council gave it unanimous approval.
The state housing agency now has up to 60 days to review it, or until Jan. 14. If it accepts the plan and deems Belvedere at least “substantially compliant,” the roadmap will be considered certified, allowing the city to complete rezoning for the lot-split incentives, and formally adopt the housing element, in February.
