Crib Notes: Belvedere’s ‘Hansel and Gretel House’ draws buyer after two weeks

Belvedere’s “Hansel and Gretel House” is in contract with a buyer about two weeks after the storybook cottage went on the market Aug. 31 at $3.65 million.

The waterfront home at 246 Beach Road drew interest from several prospective buyers before the seller accepted an offer, listing agent Bruce Burman confirmed Sept. 15.

“There were many people interested, and there was one winning offer out of many,” Burman said.

The Belvedere City Council approved the home’s historic designation in August 2023, but owner Gavriel Bar-Or applied in 2026 to have it removed, saying there was no point to the status after the city pulled out of a state program that gives owners of historic homes a property-tax break. Planning and Building Director Rebecca Markwick confirmed Bar-Or completed the required paperwork and that the designation has been removed.
