Cypress Hollow Park redesign prompts calls for more changes

Neighbors and parents unhappy with the latest redesign of Cypress Hollow Park have prompted the parks commission to seek another round of changes, including different play structures and a ramp instead of stairs.
The Parks, Open Space & Trails Commission at its Aug. 24 meeting directed Santa Rosa-based Carlile Macy to take another pass on the 60%-complete designs it presented for the park. Those designs carried an estimated construction cost of $2.09 million. That direction came after several parents expressed disappointment with the play structures proposed, one of them saying the design “doesn’t look fun at all.”
Residents also criticized a proposed sidewalk around the park and the steps connecting the park’s upper and lower play areas, calling them a potential safety hazard.
Briana Morrison, associate principal and landscape architect with Carlile Macy, said the consultant would heed the feedback.
