Del Mar Middle School’s sixth- and seventh-grade Mathletes team finished second out of 14 teams countywide for the 2025-2026 season, the only public school to place in the top three.

The team competed in four meets — Nov. 18, Jan. 13, Feb. 10 and March 10 — finishing first, second, third and second, respectively. At each meet, students answer five individual questions and five more as a group; the team with the highest combined score wins.

Eighth-grader Shirley Ning earned recognition at the February meet for a perfect individual score.

Mathletes participants also included Surya Allidina, Rohan Atkins, Alexander Davis, Arthur Ghaffary, Roye Hsu, Korbinian Neumeier, Carson Ning, Karya Noy, Henry Robinson and Kaveh Zolfaghari-Ashcroft.

Coaches were Andy Ashcroft, Mike Ghaffary, Christine Neumeier, Sammi Yang and Wendy Yang.
