Man arrested in connection with $400,000 Tiburon burglary
Updated: Dec 26, 2024
A suspect has been arrested on allegations of stealing at least $400,000 in jewelry, clothing and purses from a home in Tiburon’s Hill Haven neighborhood in May and of other home thefts across Marin.
The 46-year-old man was booked into Marin County Jail Dec. 19 on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property after police served a warrant to search his home that day, according to a Dec. 23 release posted online by the Tiburon Police Department. The suspect was released on bond Dec. 20; the District Attorney’s Office is still reviewing the case for potential charges.
The items allegedly found in the suspect’s home were related to the May burglary in Tiburon and to several others in Marin, where the San Rafael and Novato police departments, as well as the Marin Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol, also took part in the investigation of surveillance footage, interviews and other evidence.
Burglary tools and clothes matching those in the security camera footage were also reportedly found in the suspect’s car.
Police said officers were able to connect recovered items to other victims who were able to identify their stolen property, and they are working to identify any other potential victims.
While police cited $400,000 in losses in the May Tiburon burglary, the victim told The Ark it was more that $650,000. She said that while several jewelry bags were found, all were empty, and only two purses were recovered — “less than 1% in value of what was stolen.”
