Asian American, Pacific Islander fest at Zelinsky Park
Tiburon’s third Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Festival returns to Zelinsky Park May 16 with cultural performances, music and food. Entertainment at the free event, running 1-4 p.m., includes Rahiti Polynesian Dance presenting dances from Hawaii, Tonga, Samoa and Tahiti; Helen Dance Academy performing classical Chinese dance; Eth-Noh-Tec dramatizing folktales from India and the Philippines; Drum Revolution doing Japanese taiko drumming; lion dancers from the Marin Chinese Cultural Association; and West America Tae Kwon Do demonstrating the South Korean martial art. Outdoor movie, picnic at Strawberry Rec
The Strawberry Recreation District will host an outdoor movie night and activities on the field starting at 5:30 p.m. May 15. Leading up to the movie there will be a photo booth and bounce house open. Bring a picnic or try something from food trucks Benny’s Smash Burgers, Crepes Billig, Chiki’s Tacos and Baked Marin cookies. The film, the Disney hit “Zootopia 2,” will start around 7:45 p.m., depending on the sunset, and is a mismatched buddy-cop adventure set in a world of animals. The event is free; bring low seating. Jazz piano, violin duo at Old St. Hilary’s
Pianist John R. Burr and violinist Mads Tolling will perform 4 p.m. May 17 at Old St. Hilary’s Landmark. Both journeyman musicians, the duo recently released their debut instrumental album together, “Ramblin,’” covering everything from the traditional like “Ashokan Farewell” to The Beatles’ “Blackbird” and Toto’s “Africa.” Tickets are $20-$25 online or at the Belvedere-Tiburon Landmarks Society office, $25-$30 at the door if not sold out. There is no parking at Old St. Hilary’s; free parking is available at The Boardwalk shopping center, with a shuttle running from in front of Rustic Bakery beginning half an hour before the show. 415-435-1853 or landmarkssociety.com.
