Math teacher Amy Smith is known among her colleagues at Del Mar Middle School for her ability to tackle any issue with a positive attitude, says Principal Chad Stuart.

In addition to her responsibilities in the classroom, Smith has taken on two other major roles at the school, serving as a grade-level chair and a math department lead. In each role, she maintains a singular focus on what’s best for students, Stuart says.

“Amy is never fazed no matter what’s thrown her way,” he says. “She takes every challenge as an opportunity.”

For her efforts, Smith was named the Reed Union School District’s Teacher of the Year for 2022-2023. She was one of more than a dozen teachers, classified staff and retirees honored at the district’s year-end Celebration of Education, which was held May 17 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Belvedere.
