Strawberry playground price now tops $3 million

The Strawberry Recreation District’s new playground and the restroom beside it are coming in at just over $3 million — more than $500,000 above the $2.5 million maximum the board set for the project.

 

Board members learned the revised figures at their Sept. 8 meeting. They postponed a decision on the restroom contract until their Oct. 13 meeting and told playground company GameTime to come back with a lower price.


From the start of the discussion, Board Chair Peter Teese made clear he objected to the higher price.

 

“New bid, much bigger numbers, not good at all,” he said. “Like, I’m a hard no, and I’m not going to speak for anybody else, but we started out a lot lower.”
