Marin supervisors are weighing future of Strawberry review board
Marin County supervisors want a closer look at whether the Strawberry Design Review Board should be restructured or folded into another body. It is one of six such recommendations in a countywide review of the volunteer boards that advise the county.
The board reviews the design of homes and development projects in Strawberry, and it has gone nearly quiet. Since Jan. 6, 2025, the county’s hearing calendar for the board lists a single meeting, on Aug. 17 for a home project in unincorporated Alto. The calendar lists eight meetings in 2024, one of them canceled.
It also has little in front of it. The county lists planning applications by community, and its Strawberry page showed none under review as of Sept. 11. The largest project in Strawberry does not appear on that page either. North Coast Land Holdings’ redevelopment of the former seminary property — approved by the supervisors June 9 and now under challenge in Marin Superior Court — is listed under the neighboring Alto planning area.
A second Tiburon Peninsula body fared better. County staff recommended the advisory board for County Service Area No. 29, which covers the Paradise Cay canals, stay in place with what the county calls governance improvements.
Members of both boards said after the Aug. 25 Board of Supervisors meeting that the county had not contacted them about the review.
