Tiburon approves $909,000 rebuild of Bel Aire play area

Tiburon will spend more than $900,000 to rebuild the Bel Aire play area with an accessible walking loop, a picnic area and new benches — work staff says could be finished as soon as November.

The Town Council voted 4-0 Sept. 2, with Mayor Jon Welner absent, to approve spending up to $908,899 for the improvements, the first substantial upgrades made under the town’s parks master plan. The approval includes

an $812,363 contract with Richmond-based W.R. Forde Associates Inc. for construction, plus an $81,536 contingency and $15,000 for construction management and engineering.

“We have a funded park coming to Tiburon,” Vice Mayor Isaac Nikfar said following the vote, which elicited applause from some attendees.
