Tiburon awards $349,000 storm-drain contract as flood fix awaits
Tiburon is paying nearly $350,000 to reline 492 feet of corroded storm drain at nine locations around town — though none of it will stop the water that pools where Beach Road meets Tiburon Boulevard during heavy rain at high tide.
The Town Council awarded the 2026 Storm Drain Rehabilitation Project to Southwest Infrastructure Inc. for $349,024 on Sept. 16, taking the lower of just two bids. It also authorized Town Manager Greg Chanis to approve change orders of up to 10% of the contract, or about $34,902, without returning to the council. The vote was 4-0, with Vice Mayor Isaac Nikfar absent.
The work is trenchless. Crews will clean and repair existing corrugated metal pipe ranging from 10 to 48 inches in diameter, then line it from the inside with cured-in-place pipe, Public Works Engineering Manager David Eshoo told the council. The cured pipe is a new structural sleeve formed within the deteriorated metal, sealing corrosion and extending the pipe’s service life without digging up the street above it.
Storm drains receiving relined pipes, Eshoo said in an email, include a section of Blackfield Drive north of Cecilia Way; two on Karen Way at Leland Way; three along Tiburon Boulevard, at the Belvedere Tennis Club parking lot, at San Rafael Avenue and at Beach Road; and three on southern Paradise Drive, near Mar West Street, Lyford Tower and Mar East Street.
