Tiburon council advances updates for faster lot splits, duplex approvals

Tiburon will update local housing regulations to align them with recent changes to state law that streamline density increases in single-family neighborhoods.

 

The Town Council voted unanimously Aug. 6 to approve amendments to municipal code governing urban lot splits and two-unit housing developments. The ordinances will return for final adoption at the council’s Aug. 20 meeting and take effect 30 days later.

 

The changes will bring Tiburon into compliance with Senate Bill 450, which took effect Jan. 1 and modifies SB 9, California’s 2021 legislation allowing single-family homes to be converted into duplexes and residential parcels to be split into two lots without discretionary review.
