Tiburon council appoints one of its own to library board

The Tiburon Town Council appointed Councilmember Alice Fredericks to a four-year term on the Belvedere-Tiburon Library Agency board, choosing a sitting colleague over another resident who sought the seat.

The council voted 4-0 June 17 to name Fredericks over the other applicant, resident Laura Fennema. Fredericks recused herself from the vote.

She fills one of three Tiburon seats on the seven-member board, succeeding former Mayor Jeff Slavitz, who termed out June 30. Her term expires June 30, 2030.

Fredericks’ appointment, which she says she pursued as a private citizen and not as a councilmember, marks a return to library affairs. She was a member of the Belvedere-Tiburon Library Foundation, the library’s nonprofit fundraising arm, from 1998 to 2009, a stint that included a term as the foundation’s vice president.
