Tiburon council approves near 8% rate hike in garbage hauling

Starting Monday, Tiburon residents will join their Belvedere and Strawberry counterparts in paying more for trash and recycling collection, as Mill Valley Refuse Service’s in-town rates are set to jump 7.92%.

 

Billed quarterly, Tiburon residents beginning July 1 will have to pay between $11.43 and $99.48 more on their bills, depending on the size and number of their cans, number of pickups and whether they live in a flat or hilly area.



The hikes come after the Town Council voted 4-0-1 June 19 to approve those new rates, with Councilmember Jon Welner abstaining. Commenting after the meeting on his abstention, Welner said that while the town’s contract with Mill Valley Refuse legally requires the council to approve the rate increase, he said he was concerned with the terms.
