Tiburon parks commission weighs reservation system for new amenities

Tiburon offers no simple way to reserve a picnic table or book a park for a party, and its parks commission wants a system in place before the town’s new parks open.
The Parks, Open Space & Trails Commission voted 4-0 at its Aug. 24 meeting to create a reservations subcommittee, appointing Vice Chair Nicole Voss and Commissioner Chuck Hornbrook to it. Commissioner Jonathan Kahn was absent.
Hornbrook raised the idea as the commission works through proposed amenities at the former sanitation ponds site near McKegney Green, including picnic tables under a shade awning.
“It would be a free-for-all,” Hornbrook said of trying to use the proposed picnic tables under existing rules. “It’d be me squatting that morning, protecting it from everyone else.”
Hornbrook also said he believed the community would prefer seeing proactive efforts from the commission “now, as opposed to like, ‘Oh shoot, we forgot about that.’”
