Tiburon promotes officer as Police Department adds fifth sergeant

Tiburon has added a fifth police sergeant position and reduced its authorized patrol officers by one, promoting an officer who had covered supervisor shifts since January 2025.

Justin Hettich’s promotion took effect July 1. The department announced it in a July 27 Instagram post, saying he has worked in law enforcement for more than 18 years, six of them in Tiburon.

The promotion leaves the department with five sergeants and six officers, along with four reserve officers, Police Chief Michelle Jean said. One of the six, Officer William Forrest Condit, has been on paid administrative leave since October, leaving five officers available for patrol. One of the five sergeants, Rob Law, works full time as a detective.

The supervisory opening dates to January 2025, when Law moved to detective duties under a six-month pilot program. Jean said that shift left a patrol team without a supervising sergeant and that Hettich has served as officer in charge since that month.
