Tiburon to celebrate Fourth of July with downtown block party, Pooch Parade

Tiburon will mark 250 years of American independence on the Fourth of July with a Main Street block party that includes a costumed dog parade, live music and kids’ activities. Attendees can then stay downtown to catch a waterfront viewing of San Francisco’s fireworks show later that evening.

The festivities, organized by the town and the Tiburon Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, are planned for 4-8 p.m. July 4 on lower Main Street, which will be closed to car traffic 1-9 p.m. The Town Council approved the closure by a 4-0 vote at its June 3 meeting, with Councilmember Holli Thier absent.

“I think it sounds really fun and great to do,” Mayor Jon Welner said of the event.

The block party will kick off at 4 p.m. with the Pooch Parade, with owners walking their patriotic-costumed dogs from the corner of Tiburon Boulevard and Beach Road, along Ark Row and down lower Main Street before finishing at Fountain Plaza, where owners can take photos with their dogs. Parade participants will receive a gift from the chamber.

Dogs must be registered online to participate in the parade.
