Tiburon updates building code with flexibility for small homes

Tiburon residents looking to build tiny homes will soon face fewer regulatory hurdles under building-code updates the Town Council approved Nov. 19.

 

The council voted 4-0, with Councilmember Isaac Nikfar absent, to adopt changes from the 2025 state building code. The updates also reaffirm earlier-approved rules for electric-vehicle charging readiness and stricter energy-efficiency standards. A second vote takes place Dec. 3, and the changes take effect 30 days later.

 

The most substantial update is “more flexible regulations for what are considered tiny homes,” interim Community Development Director Neal Toft said.
