Barbara Tomber took private dramatic-arts lessons growing up because her mother thought the classes would help her develop poise and feel comfortable speaking with others in social settings.

That early training sparked a lifetime affinity for theater and film. For the past 35 years, Tomber has volunteered for community theater organizations and film societies in the Bay Area and Hawaii, serving on production teams and boards.

In November, Tomber was recognized by the Mountain Play with its Tamalpais Award, honoring her eight-year tenure as a board member, which wrapped up in 2025. The award, given annually to acknowledge an individual or group for lifetime support of the organization’s development and evolution, was presented to Tomber at the nonprofit’s annual gala at the Corinthian Yacht Club.
