Two Tiburon council incumbents signal intent to retain seats; no challengers yet in Belvedere

Updated: Aug 31, 2022

Tiburon Town Councilmembers Alice Fredericks and Jack Ryan have taken out nomination papers for the Nov. 8 election, signaling their intent to run to retain their seats on the board.

The third incumbent up for election this year, Mayor Jon Welner, had not yet pulled papers by The Ark’s press deadline, and no challengers have yet emerged in the race for the three seats.

As of July 22, no incumbents or challengers had taken out or filed papers for three open seats on the Belvedere City Council. At least one of those seats is guaranteed some turnover; Councilmember James Campbell is finishing up his second term on the council and won’t be seeking a third term, as two terms is the customary limit in Belvedere. The four-year seat belonging to Mayor Sally Wilkinson is also on the ballot, as is an interim seat belonging to Peter Mark; he was appointed last month to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Steve Block in March and must now run if he wants to retain the seat.

The filing period for the November ballot — which also includes races for seats on the public school, fire, sanitation and recreation districts serving the Tiburon Peninsula — runs through Aug. 12, with an automatic extension to Aug. 17 only for challengers if an incumbent fails to file.
