Belvedere eyes more than a dozen sites for housing

Tom Price Dog Park, a portion of The Boardwalk Shopping Center and several vacant properties along Belvedere Avenue, including the famed Lava House, are among more than a dozen sites the city says could be rezoned or developed to accommodate new housing over the next eight years.

Belvedere has preliminarily identified the 18 sites as part of its state-mandated attempt to plan for 160 new housing units in the 2023-2031 housing cycle — and it wants the public’s input as it continues to whittle down and finalize its selections over the coming months.

However, residents have expressed early concerns about the traffic and safety impacts of adding more housing to a city that is already short on available space for development and where vacant parcels often feature challenging topography for building.
