Pickleball pop irks neighbors in Belvedere, Tiburon
After receiving complaints from more than a dozen residents concerned about potential noise, Tiburon's Parks, Open Space and Trails Commission at its Sept. 21 teleconference meeting put off recommending pickleball be allowed on the tennis courts at Teather Park, located on Beach Road behind CVS/pharmacy, to gather more information on potential noise impacts and mitigation measures.
Teather Park neighbors aren’t the only ones sounding off. The Ranch and city of Belvedere are also dealing with pickleball noise complaints on the Lagoon Road tennis courts, adjacent to Tiburon Boulevard near its intersection with Lyford Drive.
Described by one Tiburon resident as “amplified ping-pong on steroids," the noise has created a market for quieter paddles and balls, yet it’s increasingly drawing complaints and outright bans nationwide as the sport grows in popularity.
