Six vying for interim seat on Tiburon Town Council
The Town Council is set to interview six candidates to fill an interim vacancy on the board at its meeting tonight, March 1.
Nearly all of the applicants currently volunteer or have sat on other town boards: Karen Carrera, who is a citizen member of the Diversity Inclusion Task Force; Kathleen Defever, who sits on the Planning Commission; Chuck Hornbrook and Isaac Nikfar, who sit on the Parks, Open Space and Trails Commission; Nora Noguez, a member of the Heritage and Arts Commission; and Lou Weller, who previously served on the Planning Commission. A seventh applicant, resident Christina McElreath, withdrew ahead of the meeting.
Defever, Nikfar and Noguez have all unsuccessfully run for election to a seat on the council over the past few years, with Nikfar being the most recent to mount an attempt; he failed to win enough support to unseat one of three incumbents — Alice Fredericks, Jon Welner and Jack Ryan — in November.
The six applicants are now vying to temporarily fill the council seat vacated when Noah Griffin resigned in January to care for his wife, who has been diagnosed with cancer.
